Celebrating World Book Day
Phantom of the Opera – Maya-Maria
From the moment I started reading “Phantom of the Opera” by Gaston Leroux, I felt as if I was watching a live performance, every page lured me to read more and more about the beauty of this book.
What inspired me to create a cake based on this story was the way in which identity was represented through the mask. The phantom is portrayed as wearing half of a regular mask, which helps to better understand his character: half of him is like a ghost, unknown and unseen by the others, while the other half of him is still human as he has emotions that he gives in to. Masks are known to hide people’s faces, but I never thought the structure of a mask can give so much meaning
The Book Thief – Abigail
My biscuits are based on The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. They have some of my favourite quotes and important images from the book.
