Extended Essay topic area: Linguistic differences between French spoken in France and French spoken in Canada
Why IB?: I might like to study at a university abroad and so the international nature of the IB appealed to me.
Why Parkside Sixth?: I liked the atmosphere here, and the location is great!

My plans for post 18: University (maybe abroad!)
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: Choose the right subject/course for you. Ensure you understand what is required and above all, be organised!

CAS Activities I’ve done: Cycling, Bass guitar, volunteering at music events within the school partnership
Extended Essay topic area: Concepts of humanity in literature Why IB?: I found the breadth of subjects along with the extracurricular requirements appealing.
Why Parkside Sixth?: I was drawn to Parkside because I wanted to do the IB Diploma. Also the small class sizes here make me feel more included and valued.
Top 3 aspects of Parkside:
1. The people
2. The human-scale feel

My plans for post 18: I’d like to go to university.
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: Pick a Sixth Form that you believe you will thrive in. Parkside Sixth is that place for me.

CAS Activities I’ve done: Choir group, volunteering at charity shops
Extended Essay topic area: Influences of social media on definitions of modern verse and poetry
Why IB?: I really like the courses. The Extended Essay give you an opportunity to study something specific and personally interesting to you. In terms of CAS, it challenges you and makes you more than just a student. It makes you an interesting and better individual. The IB leaves many doors open for you to pursue after Sixth Form.
Why Parkside Sixth?: It has the best teachers. They are all really supportive and encouraging, and not just in terms of your academic study. The IB courses are interesting and thought-provoking. It doesn’t feel like arduous study when you enjoy what you are doing.

1. The coursework elements
2. The safe and pleasant environment
3. The supportive teachers
My plans for post 18: I would like a career in law. So I intended to go to university but I may take a gap year first.
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: If you choose IB, you need to be proactive and organised. But if you know what you want to achieve and are prepared, then go for it!

Why IB?: I liked the fact that you can do six subjects, and they were so interesting
Why Parkside Sixth?: The place was really welcoming and the teachers were friendly

3. Everyone is nice to each other and is supportive
My plans for post 18: I’d like to go to university.
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: Pick subjects that you are interested in and ensure you are well organised.

IB Subjects: Maths, Biology and Film (HL); English Language and Literature, French and Psychology (SL). CAS Activities I’ve done: Flute lessons and Gold Duke of Edinburgh
Extended Essay topic area: Linguistic and poetic devices in Wilfred Owen poetry
Why IB?: I chose to study the IB as I didn’t want to narrow down my subjects as much as I would have had to with A Levels.
Why Parkside Sixth?: I liked how Parkside was a small school so you get to know everybody really well. The teachers are all really friendly and want you to do well as an individual.

1. Friendly atmosphere
2. Small class sizes
3. Central location
My plans for post 18: I’ll be studying Biology at university.
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: Don’t just go where your friends are going. Choose courses you will enjoy and be open to trying new subjects you haven’t had the opportunity to study before.

CAS Activities I’ve done: Volunteering at film festivals, running
Extended Essay topic area: Modern readings of myths and masculinity
Why IB?: I wanted to study a wide variety of subjects to challenge me and to ensure I broadened my knowledge

1. Small community

3. Understanding and supportive staff
My plans for post 18: I’ll be taking a gap year and then studying paramedical science.
My advice to students considering Sixth Form: Make the most of CAS! Keep a rigorous log of what you do to stay organised and use it as an opportunity to diversify your hobbies!
